Well then, let's go. Let's go! Hello everyone. It's time for YUYU's Japanese Podcast. How is everyone doing? Today I am recording this podcast on Monday, May 25, 2026. This is the first podcast of the week. How are you all spending your time? How did you start your week? Yes. For me, well, from the morning it was a Monday with classes going full blast, but now it's lunchtime. I'm recording this podcast at 2 PM. Yes. So, I'd like to start right away, and since today is Monday, yesterday was Sunday. I wonder how everyone spent their day? Well, I think many people probably rest on Sunday. You know, I think some went out somewhere, some relaxed at home, some played games all day—people spent it in various ways. That comment just now was pretty harsh for people who work on Sundays, right? Oh, sorry. But that's true, isn't it. Since there are people working hard on Sunday, there are also those who can enjoy Sunday, so to those who spent Sunday working, thank you very much for your hard work. Yes. As for me, since Sunday is my only day off in the week, it's an important day off, but yesterday I made gyoza. Yes, Chinese-style gyoza. Well, in China, it seems they often boil or steam the gyoza after making them to eat soft gyoza, but in Japan, we often eat pan-fried gyoza using a frying pan and oil. Yes. Well, since we had some time yesterday on Sunday, we went to the butcher and bought meat. Then we wrapped the gyoza, fried them, and as soon as they were fried, we transferred them to a plate. And I drank delicious beer while snacking on freshly baked dumplings. Yes. Were the dumplings not tasty? The dumplings were delicious too. Because I made them, you know. Yeah. About those dumplings, I ate them and drank delicious beer. That's the point, you see. Yes. And so, I spent a lovely Sunday like that. Well, there are various ways to spend a Sunday, but, you know, even if you don't go out, even if you don't pay a lot of money, even if you don't spend money, I think small happiness is close at hand—it's a Sunday that made me feel that way. Yeah. Um, from the evening onward, I watched anime while drinking the leftover beer. Yeah. Lately, I haven't been watching much anime, but this season's anime, um, it's Tensei Slime. Is it 'That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime'? Is that right? I think it's something like that. Anyway, after watching an isekai anime, does everyone know? Dandadan. You know, that shonen anime. I was watching season 2 of Dandadan a bit. Yes. So, like that, I watched that anime, drank beer, ate yakitori, and ate grilled dumplings — it was that kind of Sunday. But this time, I have something I want to talk about related to anime. I was really looking forward to it, well, a manga I like is getting an anime adaptation. Yeah. Lately, I really haven't been watching anime, but, well, there's an anime I'm looking forward to so much that I'm thinking I might follow it in real time. Um, it's a summer anime. It starts in July, so it'll start in a little over a month. That anime is called Yanineko. Yes. Yanineko. Mm-hmm. This is a slice-of-life anime about, um, the daily life of a cat older sister who loves cigarettes, well, that's the story. It's a slice-of-life anime, but, you know, it's a pretty weird anime, so I'm looking forward to it, I guess. I'm looking forward to it, but if you ask me whether I can recommend it to everyone, I can't recommend it at all—it's that kind of mysterious anime. Um, there was an introduction on the website, so I'd like to read it a bit. Yes. In a world where humans and beastmen coexist, there's a slacker beastman cat who smokes cigarettes and lazes around. No money, no life skills, a good-for-nothing. She's thrown away manners and morals along with her cigarette butts. Nicotine-stained, dirty, lazy, and trashy. Inhale, exhale, chat, and burn up. But she spends her days somehow fulfilled. It's quite dirty but slightly uplifting. A manga that went viral on SNS is surprisingly getting a TV anime adaptation, taking on the challenge of TV anime adaptation. That's what it says. Sorry if it can't be broadcasted. It was written something like "Please loosely watch over the tobacco-stained daily lives of these somehow endearing trash cats." Right, that's how it is. Right, she's a beautiful, cute cat lady, but she really, really loves tobacco, lives in a really messy, garbage-filled apartment, living a life that makes you feel sick if you look at it for a bit, but she's still a beautiful lady. That's the gap that's interesting. Right, by the way, that "yani" word that came up earlier, well, "yani" means tobacco in Japanese. Yes. What "yani" is, it's the brown liquid that comes out of trees, called "yani". For example, the liquid that comes out of pine trees, like pine resin. So, have you ever seen that resin? It's a little brown and sticky. Yes. And, because that resin resembles the brown, sticky stuff that sticks to the filter of a cigarette smoker, cigarettes are called 'yani' (tar). 'Yanikasu' (tar dregs) refers to a worthless person whose life has been ruined by cigarettes, a worthless person who loves cigarettes. Yes. This 'kasu' (dregs) has various expressions, and I'm saying this very seriously, but it's really that, that bad word, you know. You know, people who seriously want to study Japanese don't need to add it to their vocabulary list, and it will never appear on the JLPT. Yeah. Right, like 'yanikasu'. And then there's pachinko addicts. That means pachinko or pachislot players. Well, people who've messed up their lives, like pachinko addicts. Yeah. Well, there are all kinds of losers, but looking at the title, I think you got it—this is about YUYU being an alcoholic. Right, I don't smoke, but as I said earlier, I really love beer. That's right. And, um, the anime 'Yani Neko' that I look forward to—the one about a nicotine addict, a big sister who loves cigarettes—it's really popular. So, why is it popular? Even just watching, her life is really on the edge. And, well, like, my life is being ruined by cigarettes. It's really just cigarettes all the time. It's intense, you know. You know, I would normally look in the trash can for my own cigarettes that I smoked and still had a little left, and smoke them. Yeah, like, I'd smoke while in the bath and just toss the cigarette butt into the bathwater, which is really gross, you know. But, you know, today's society really demands perfection, right? Right. We can't make mistakes. We have to take care of ourselves. That means we have to take care of ourselves mentally, take care of our bodies, work hard, do things that get praised by others—amidst all that stress, when I see a beautiful woman who just can't quit smoking, it calms me down, you know. Well, yeah, it was in the introduction just now too, but even though it's pretty dirty, it kind of encourages me a little. You know, sometimes when you get really encouraged, it's annoying, isn't it? No, it's like, 'I'm already trying my best, so stop it.' Like, 'That's enough already.' But I think there are various ways to encourage someone. Right. There's 'do your best,' but I also think there's a kind of negative encouragement that starts from 'I'm already hopeless.' On the contrary, in today's world, isn't that kind of encouragement better? You've all seen plenty of 'good ways to live' and things like that already, right? YUYU。 So, this time, it's not 'Nicotine Cat' but 'Alcohol YUYU.' Yeah, right, I'll introduce the alcoholic parts of me, and while everyone laughs, I hope you think, 'Oh, YUYU is living a bad life, but even so, YUYU is trying hard to live.' Okay, I'll do my best too, in my own way. Yeah. Not trying to achieve great success in life, but cherishing daily happiness and living leisurely—I hope you feel that way. So this time, I want to talk about the alcoholic YUYU. So, please listen until the end this time too. Well then, thank you for your support. yo yo Yo yo, learn while laughing, that's the style. The journey of Japanese is still many miles. Morning commute, evening study time. Dive into Japanese with YUYU's podcast. Well then, I'd like to start talking right away, but to put it simply, there are two types of 'sake scum': one is an alcoholic, a person with alcohol addiction. The other is someone who drinks badly. These are also called 'sake scum'. What is it? There are people who become bad-tempered when they drink alcohol, right? And, well, as for me... Um, I'm more of the type of 'sake scum' who can't stop drinking. But, well, everyone, seriously don't worry. If I decide to stop, I can stop, normally. For a week, um, two or three days without drinking, I'm totally fine. About three days. If it's about three days, it's totally fine. Yeah. How about a week? Yeah. Well, if I had a cold, I might not drink. At that level, well, there's the thing that I really love alcohol. Right, well, I was drinking yesterday too, the day before yesterday too, and on Friday too. Right, well, me, that 'alcohol dregs', really, it's not like I can't live without alcohol or my hands shake, not at all, really. At night, with the same feeling as when everyone wants to eat something sweet, I think I want to drink beer at night. That kind of feeling. Yeah. So, well, this time, I want to talk about my drunkard episodes. Uh, the titles are, uh, first: calculation, second: adjustment, third: excuse, fourth: highball. Okay. Well, I want to talk about them one by one. First: calculation. People who are drunkards basically calculate everything in terms of alcohol, right? For example, uh, when you buy toilet paper. And, uh, for example, there is a pack of toilet paper for 1,400 yen. Ah, so 1,400 yen means one beer... uh, 120 yen? Well, you can't buy it for 120 yen now, but say it's 140 yen, then ah, that's like ten beers. Yes, converting everything into alcohol calculations is a typical drunkard thing, huh. And I basically, um, don't calculate money in terms of beer. Yeah, well, but the calorie calculation for exercise is basically in beer. Lately, you know, I've been exercising, right? And I exercise while watching YouTube. I project the exercise video onto the big living room TV. And in some of them, every ten minutes it shows how many kilocalories you've burned. There are videos like that. So, for example, after 30 minutes of exercise, a calorie gauge, like a calorie consumption gauge, a meter for the calories you've used, appears and goes “turururururururururuti” and shows something like 200 kilocalories. And when I see that, I think, “Oh, that's a little more than one beer.” And 300 kilocalories, “Oh, I can drink two beers,” or “Oh, 600 kilocalories, so in the end I can drink four beers.” And even then, four beers is net zero, right? And since it's said that a man burns about 2000 kilocalories a day on average, it's like “Oh, four beers for free.” Free, free means the price is zero yen, but in my mind, the beer equivalent to the calories burned during that exercise is free. Yes, it's free. I don't think it's bad for my body at all. I'm always doing that kind of calculation. So, like, when I take a walk, it's about 50 kilocalories, so that's one sip of beer or something, I'm always doing that kind of calculation. And for the second adjustment, basically, I'm the type who drinks beer at night. I don't really drink during the day. I almost never drink. I don't even feel like drinking. Drinking beer at the end of the day is happiness for me. So, from around afternoon, around evening, I start adjusting how to drink delicious beer at night. And by adjustment, I mean control, right? Yeah. For example, I think about what to eat for dinner. I see. I think there are various types of alcoholics, but I just love beer. And I'm a bit of a gourmet, a gourmet alcoholic. There's no such genre, but I'm a gourmet. I want to drink the most delicious beer possible. So yesterday I made gyoza. It's not that I wanted to eat gyoza, so I made gyoza and chose beer as its companion; I make gyoza in order to drink delicious beer. You understand? This is a big difference. Yes. So what I make for dinner is for drinking delicious beer. Uh-huh. Well, you know, my Japanese lessons, evening lessons, end around nine at the earliest, or around ten thirty at the latest. Uh-huh. It doesn't end until ten thirty, so if that happens, I start drinking around eleven, right? And well, when it gets to that point, I can't make anything too elaborate, and if I eat proper snacks, it's bad calorie-wise and health-wise. And if I eat something unhealthy like fried food at eleven at night, that guilt—the feeling of doing something bad is called guilt—that guilt makes the beer not taste good. Considering that as well, I think about the perfect snack. Yes, recently it's canned goods. Canned goods. You know canned goods? Right, the ones with tuna and stuff. The other day, that staff member Ryota gave me a can of mackerel in miso, and mackerel is like sardine? Yeah. There's a can of that long slender fish soaked in miso, and I got it as a gift. Mackerel in miso with beer is absolutely delicious. You see, mackerel is a fatty fish, and the can also has a little oil in it. And, miso is in it. Miso is salty, right? And, it's slightly sweet. And, the flavor of that fish called mackerel, the sweetness of the miso, a little saltiness, and the fat all come together nicely to welcome the beer. Yes, in my mouth, like, 'Welcome, Mr. Beer.' Thank you for your hard work today. Please come this way.' And the beer says, 'Thanks, excuse me,' and goes splash into my mouth. Then, the mackerel and the beer say, 'Shall we go together into Yusuke's body?' and whoosh, like sliding down a water slide, refreshing and swoosh, the beer rushes into my body with great force. This feeling is truly happy. Sorry, sorry. I got excited. Ah, I got a bit too excited and my nose started running. I'm sorry. Okay, okay. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Like I said, yeah, it's about how to make delicious snacks, and also, um, we also manage the moisture content. As for moisture, water is that transparent stuff, um, we call it water, but anything other than that is also moisture. Coffee also contains moisture, and of course, of course Coca-Cola also contains moisture. Right, you know, managing your hydration is important. Right, so like, the evening lesson is from 7 to 9, but during the first 45 minutes you can drink water, but for the remaining 1 hour 15 minutes, try not to drink water and keep your throat nicely dry. That way, the beer tastes better. Yeah. For those who don't drink beer, I want you to imagine when you water a flower. If you haven't watered it for about two days, the soil the flower is planted in becomes a light brown, dry. Then when you water it, the water soaks in with a fizzing sound, and that light brown turns into a dark brown, and it dissolves and sinks in. You know that feeling? That happens in your body. That, that happens in your body with beer. For a really dry body, there's a feeling like the beer fizzes and dissolves into you. And that's the best, so how much you sweat and how dry your throat is when you have that first drink is really important. Yes, it's extremely important. So, including water adjustment, um, I'll do it from the latter half of the day. Yeah. Okay. That's how it goes, I guess. After that exercise too, I often do that exercise after class, actually. Yes, no matter how you look at it, it's tough. The lesson ends at 9 PM, and after that, I send homework and materials, and by the time I change and get ready, I can only start exercising around 9:30 PM. And, well, my exercise usually lasts about an hour and a half, so if I start at 9:30, I finish at 11 PM. And the next day, you know, the lesson starts at 6 AM or something. That's definitely high risk, isn't it? It's better to exercise in the afternoon, right? Even so, even so, one of the reasons I exercise at night, occasionally, is to drink delicious beer. It's the best. It's the absolute best. I exercise, sweat as much as I can, make my body completely dry and hot after working out, then after exercising and sweating, I take a shower. Even after showering, my body is still hot, so the sweat doesn't stop. I'm like, 'Ah, it's so hot.' Then I turn on the air conditioner in the room to cool it down, and then I have that first beer. Like I said earlier, just as water soaks into dry soil, the beer soaks into my dry body, giving me the best feeling. This is really the happiness of sake lees. Yes. So, adjustment. And, the third one is an excuse. This is also a common thing with sake lees, it becomes a reason to drink anything. Right, just so you know, I'm on a diet. And because I'm on a diet, I really shouldn't drink alcohol. It's the worst. See, when you eat meat, it contains protein, so it goes to your body; when you eat vegetables, they contain dietary fiber, so it goes to your stomach. Alcohol is just calories, you know. I really shouldn't, though. But still, even while dieting, I want to drink. Anyway, I try to come up with reasons. Excuses. What I often do is say 'I worked hard.' I worked hard, so beer. Yeah. Like, in class, I taught Japanese earnestly, or in conversation lessons I used my head a lot to have conversations, or after recording that collab podcast, I used my brain a lot to make the conversation flow well. Yusuke worked hard today too. I worked hard at exercise. I think of excuses like, 'Drinking beer isn't a bad thing,' and then go ahead and drink. Also, because the weather is nice today. Mexico is the best, because the weather is always good. Today it was nice and hot with the sun out, so I'll drink beer at night. Also, a terrible one: because there's something. There's something, so I drink beer. Today too, there are still four cold beers left in the fridge. I'm thinking about what to do after dinner tonight, but I mean, if they're there, I have to drink them. Because I have to drink them sometime. So I think up excuses like, 'If I drink them now and clear the fridge of beer, I can go on a diet.' I'm thinking of drinking now. And if I don't buy from there, I might be able to diet for a week. So I go, drink on Monday, and on Tuesday I say, 'Nidia, want to go buy beer?' and end up with beer on Tuesday too, which happens every time, but since it's there, I drink. Yeah. Or, um, I drink because tomorrow is a day off. The terrible thing is, for me, a day off is when there's no first class in the morning; that's my day off. Well, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, I have classes super early in the morning. But on Thursdays and Fridays, my first work, um, my first class is from around 11 or 12 noon. Right. That means I can drink, right? Yeah, because there's no need to have class with alcohol still in my system, well, there's nothing to do, so it's a break for me. That said, basically, um, I can drink on Wednesday night and Thursday night. Right. See? And on Friday night, I actually have a lesson on Saturday morning at 9 a.m., but since Friday is already the weekend, I end up drinking, right? And on Saturday, the next day is Sunday, so I drink. Yeah. And on Sunday, the next day is Monday morning, work—well, Japanese lessons start at 7 a.m., but on Sunday I can drink from the evening, so if I drink from the evening, I don't drink at night and fall asleep, and since it's the same, I drink. And on Monday, the next day is early, so I often don't drink. And on Tuesday, the next day—oh, no, on Tuesday—oh, that's right. On Tuesday, the next day's Wednesday morning isn't too early. Since the first lesson is at 10 AM, I drink. Oh, no, no, no. まあまあまあまあ。 Well, well, well. So, well, I drink because tomorrow is a day off, you know. Yeah. Also, sometimes I drink because I'm thirsty. I'm super thirsty, you know. I could just drink water, though. But right now, it's the best state to enjoy beer, right? Then you have to drink beer, right? That's what I think. I mean, after exercise, you drink protein, right? That's because after exercise, your body is most dehydrated, and protein enters your body in a good state, so you drink protein, right. You don't eat chocolate after exercise, do you? Yes, it's the same. You drink beer when you're thirsty, right? Isn't it? Right. Because it tastes the best that way. So, because I'm thirsty, I drink beer. And the last reason is, what if tomorrow were the last day? That's what I say. I mean, what if tomorrow? For instance, if I go out to buy beer, get hit by a car on the road, and tomorrow becomes my last day, I think I'd really regret not drinking beer tonight, this very night. I'd definitely think, 'I should have had that one beer in the fridge,' so I drink it. So, thinking up such excuses and then drinking anyway—that's what a 'sake dregs' is. Yes. That's how it is. Excuses. And finally, it's a highball. But you know, I'm exercising and aiming for a six-pack, so I have to be careful. So, if I absolutely want to drink alcohol while dieting, I drink highballs. Right, whiskey and carbonated water, that fizzy water. Right. Um, highballs have fewer calories compared to beer, you know. Right, well, does everyone know that? Yeah. So if it has fewer calories than beer, then for me it's already zero calories. It's as good as zero. And, there's that fizziness similar to beer, and if you squeeze in some lemon, it's refreshing and delicious, so last week, three out of seven days I had highballs. It was a diet menu, you know. Yeah, that's how it is; I find any excuse to drink alcohol. Right. But you know, as I said earlier, I'm living a fairly fulfilling life. That's why people say, 'YUYU, that's no good, alcohol is bad for you,' and 'That's definitely not good.' It's true that some people ruin their lives with alcohol or cause trouble for those around them. I understand that. Yeah. But I don't have bad drinking habits, I never hurt anyone when I drink, and most of all, it makes me a little happier. It's not just a little. It's a good thing that there are things that can make you really happy, right? Yeah, that kind of thing is fine, isn't it? That's what I think. Yeah. See, that's like eating sweets. See, 'sweets scum,' 'watermelon scum' — there's no such word, but. See, I love Coca-Cola. See, enjoy the best Coca-Cola. Coca scum. That doesn't exist either. This is also a word I made up just now. There are all kinds of things like that, you know. Like, 'I love ice cream, I love ice cream, I scream.' All sorts of those imperfect parts are what make us human, right? Yeah. So, everyone, after listening to this podcast today and working hard, please buy yourself a little reward on the way home—some delicious ice cream or sweets, or for beer lovers, clink glasses with a beer. I think that's fine. Yes. Well, that was a story about how indulging yourself is important too. Yes. Thank you for listening. This podcast is YUYU's local loop, heading towards natural Japanese. Next is the ending talk, ending talk. The exit is on the native speaker side. For conversational listening performance change, please transfer. The ending talk is coming soon. So, this is the final ending talk. Yes. Um, this time, YUYU talked about being called 'alcohol dregs'. How was it? While laughing happily, you know, but that laugh just now wasn't really laughing, was it? It was a totally cringe-worthy laugh, wasn't it? Well, whatever. Well, whatever. Well, whether it's that cringe-worthy laugh or a genuinely funny laugh, anything is fine, so I'd be happy if you could listen with a laugh. Yeah. And I'd be even happier if you could feel a bit at ease. Okay. Well, amid all that, today is Monday, but it's hot, you know. Probably, it's around 35 degrees today. Yes, that's right, now the maximum temperature is 35 degrees. It's hot. So, I'm thinking about the plan from here on, um, after this I have a private lesson for an hour, then I'll exercise. And then, after the evening lesson ends, I'll open the refrigerator. Around 9:30 at night. Yeah. And, um, yesterday I fried gyoza, and there are five left. So, I'll microwave those gyoza to make them piping hot. Then I'll wolf down those hot gyoza. Then I'll open the fridge again, and take a bottle of Corona beer from the top shelf that's ice-cold and super chilled. It's a transparent bottle. And when you take the transparent bottle out of the fridge, you know, it's really hot outside. The beer bottle is cold, so it's white, you know, when dew clings to the bottle's surface. And in that situation, when you pop it open with a bottle opener, And then, at the mouth, that empty space with no liquid from the beer to the top, the air part, becomes cloudy as gas rises gently. That, you know, is where the refreshing aroma of Corona is trapped. And then, holding that bottle, enjoying the cool, cold sensation of the bottle in your left hand, you put your mouth to it and drink it all at once, and that first part of Corona's refreshing aroma passes through your nose, and then the refreshing fizz of carbonation goes down your throat. And, like that. Sorry, that was really crude. But yeah, that's it. And, before I knew it, I had already drunk more than half a bottle of Corona beer with the first sip. And then I say, 'Good work today' as a gift. I'm so looking forward to doing that tonight. I'm already excited. Yes, well, that was the kind of podcast.
